Luton Skeete Our Father

Luton Skeete was born in Rock Hall St. Lucy on the 21st of September 1921 to parents Edmond Skeete and Adrianna Skeete, he was educated at St. Lucy's Primary and senior school (Messhouse School) from 1926 until 1935, after leaving school, he started to learn a trade at Fairfield sugar factory in St. Lucy. At one point in 1941 he briefly went to work in the United States at the Green Giant factory in Wesconsin, after that contract was finished and he had to return to Barbados the aircraft in which he traveled back to Barbados had some serious terbulance, however, it got to Barbados safely and he vowed never to get on an aircraft again. In 1942 Luton started dating Imelda and got married in 1945, he is the father of fourteen children who are all alive, twelve from his wife Imelda and two others Fay Skeete and Jennifer Babb.

Back in Barbados after the visit to the USA, he returned to Fairfield sugar factory where he excelled in his factory engineering skills, he became a factory engeneer and later was promoted to chief engineer, he was very good at fixing things and I am sure all of his sons pick up some of the skills from him.

After working at the Fairfield sugar factory for thirty five years it finaly closed down, he then got a job at the Barbados Rum Refinery at Brandons St. Michael where he worked until retirement at age sixty five. During his retirement and even before retirement he was a master at growing fruits and vegitables.

On a very sad day in February 2011 Luton Skeete passed away, may he rest in peace.
